About FUT Hair Transplants

What is a FUT hair transplant?

FUT, short for Follicular Unit Transplantation, is a highly effective procedure used widely in the field of hair transplantation. It is also known by other names such as strip harvesting or Follicular Unit Strip Surgery (FUSS). This innovative procedure involves the skilled extraction of a skin strip brimming with healthy hair follicles from either the side or the back of your head by a seasoned surgeon.

These extracted follicles are then delicately dissected into minuscule clusters - called grafts - each holding single or multiple hairs. These grafts are subsequently implanted into the areas of your scalp with thinning hair or bald patches.

FUT procedure may demand a more extensive recovery period and carries a higher chance of scarring. However, its key advantage lies in the ability to obtain a greater number of grafts from a relatively small area. Much like its counterpart - the FUE transplant - FUT is lauded for its ability to yield a natural and seamless hairline, blending perfectly with the rest of your hair. As a result, FUT can be a substantial confidence booster, while helping regain your youthful hairline.

About FUT Hair Transplants

How do FUT hair transplants work?

Before embarking on your FUT hair restoration journey, you will be provided with a local anaesthetic to numb the treatment area, along with a mild sedative to ensure your utmost comfort and relaxation. This meticulous approach aims to provide a virtually painless experience.

Our experienced surgeon will delicately extract a narrow strip of skin from your predetermined donor site. The size of this strip, typically ranging from 5-20cm in length and 0.5-2cm in width, is dependent on the quantity of grafts needed. This strip is then meticulously divided into tiny follicular units, each consisting of 1-4 hair follicles.

Following this, the surgeon skillfully makes a multitude of small incisions in the areas suffering from hair thinning, usually around your temples and/or crown. The hair grafts are then implanted, mirroring the density of your existing hair, to provide a result that seamlessly blends in, resembling your natural hair growth pattern. Post-procedure, the incision in the donor site is neatly sutured, leaving a faint linear scar as the only trace of your transformation.
